A little history…
The founder of the city of Nikolaev is Prince Grigory Alexandrovich Potemkin Tauride. Name given to the city by Prince Potemkin in memory of Russian troops capture the Turkish fortress Ochakov in the day (December 6) of Christian feast of St. Nicholas of Myra (St. Nicholas, patron saint of sailors).
